Since 2002, St. John's Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Maryland, supported by several churches in the greater Baltimore area, has sent a group to San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic to share God's love through medical clinics, children's ministries, and work projects. Our teams begin to form in January to prepare for the trip.
Please keep this mission, as well as its year-round ministry in your prayers.
The work done by the team would not be possible without partners in mission. The mission team is blessed to have the support of many friends and family members, as well as several congregations and Baltimore area businesses, who provide the donated items and funds that make the mission possible.
In addition to the support from home, the team coordinates with pastors of Christian congregations in needy communities, as well as with other community leaders. Many of our Dominican friends travel to mission sites with the team to serve as organizers, guides, interpreters, teachers, cooks, or even manual laborers.
The need to relieve the suffering of the poor in the Dominican Republic should be clear. But in addition to providing supplies, our mission, united with Dominican Christians, seeks to carry the love of God into the lives of those who are marginalized, outcast, or even forgotten. We seek to bring and instill hope with all those we serve.
In the process of serving others, no team member leaves the Dominican Republic the same. In the midst of their hardships, our Dominican partners serve with a faith and joy that is infectious. So although our mission is primarily to the poor of the Dominican Republic, we happily recognize the life-changing experience that it brings to those who go.
